API Terms

The terms for API keys while the CoinBeacon API is in its free beta.

Effective date: 1 October 2026

These terms say what an API key gets you during the beta, how you may use the data, the credit the data sources ask for, and what may change. The API reference covers the endpoints themselves.

1. What these terms cover

These terms cover the CoinBeacon API at api.coinbeacon.io, and the API keys you create on the API page in the app or that we issue to you. They add to our Terms of Service, which still apply. Where the two differ about the API, these terms win.

2. Free during the beta

The API is free while the beta runs. Each account gets 2,000 credits a day and 60 credits a minute, shared by all its keys, and may hold 2 keys. Each call costs the credits the API docs list for it. The beta is open to the first 100 accounts; after that we keep a waitlist.

We may change these limits during the beta. Before any limit drops, we will email the address on your account 30 days ahead. When the beta ends, a free plan will remain.

3. Your keys

A key belongs to the account that created it, and you are responsible for every call made with your keys. Keep a key on your server: never put it in a web page, an app you ship or a public repository. If a key leaks, revoke it on the API page; revoking takes effect on the next call.

Do not share keys, and do not open extra accounts to get more credits. We may revoke a key that has leaked, is shared, or is used against these terms.

4. How you may use the data

You may use the API in personal and commercial projects alike: tools, research, apps and products of your own. You may show data from the API inside your project, with the credits in section 5.

You may not:

  • sell, rent or sublicense access to the API, or let others use your keys;
  • republish the data in bulk, as a feed, a downloadable dataset or an API of your own;
  • build a service that copies CoinBeacon’s boards or competes with the API;
  • get around the limits, for example with several accounts or with requests that pretend to come from our website.

5. Credit the sources

The data comes from exchanges’ public APIs and from three providers. When you display it, credit CoinBeacon and, where it applies, the original source, next to the data:

  • Market totals and dominance, trending coins, and all-time high and low marks come from CoinGecko. Show “Powered by CoinGecko” with a link to https://www.coingecko.com.
  • The Fear & Greed index comes from alternative.me. Credit alternative.me next to the value, with a link to https://alternative.me/crypto/fear-and-greed-index/.
  • Market cap, rank and coin details come from CoinMarketCap. Credit CoinMarketCap.

The API docs show which endpoints carry which source.

6. No guarantees

The API is a beta. It may be slow, wrong, interrupted or changed, and fields may change without notice. There is no versioning and no service level. It is market data, not advice: nothing it returns is a recommendation to trade. The disclaimers and limits of liability in our Terms of Service apply to the API too.

7. Changes, and the end of the beta

We may pause new keys, change these terms or end the beta. We will email key holders about changes that affect them, and 30 days ahead before any limit drops. A route may close to API keys at short notice if a data provider requires it.

8. Contact

Questions, or need more than the beta allows? Write to support@coinbeacon.io and tell us what you are building.
